Applications to the 2023 projects are now open!
Our ML for Social Good centre has received project proposals from partners with socially responsible projects in need of data science and machine learning assistance. Student fellows will work closely with their assigned supervisors, meeting weekly to collaborate on the project, which will culminate in a final presentation.
Honours and Masters students from the University of Auckland can apply to participate in the 2023 Student Fellows program for either semester one or semester two, an eight to ten-week full-time data science project that provides technical mentorship from UOA researchers and advanced graduate students.
Throughout the semester, participants will receive weekly check-ins and mentorship meetings from faculty, research scientists, advanced graduate students, or post-docs. The program also includes technical training and discussions related to project and data science topics.
The main objective of the fellowship is to provide student fellows with an exciting ML learning experience while contributing to real-world problems with social impact.
A strong and passionate desire to learn and develop skills in several key areas, including data science, working collaboratively with project partners, statistics, reproducibility, and programming.
A current or upcoming Honours/Masters student at the University of Auckland.
High level of proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python.
Fully committed to attending all meetings and events throughout the entire duration of the project.
The University of Auckland is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and invites students from all disciplines to apply for this opportunity. All applicants who meet the qualifications for this program will be given equal consideration and we welcome and encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply.
